Career

After a brilliant academic career at the Sydenham College of Commerce  & Economics, Bombay, joined the Syndicate Bank Ltd., in 1943 as  Sub -Manager at Bombay, Fort Office. Promoted as Dy. Manager on  5-3-1946. From 23-2-1949 to 5-8-1954, services were lent to the  Southern India Apex Bank Ltd., Udupi as Managing Director. On  6-8-1954, services were recalled by Syndicate Bank and served in the  Syndicate Bank Ltd., again in various capacities as Superintendent of  Branches (from 6-9-1954 to 30-4-1958) Dy. General Manager (from  1-5-1958 to 31-12-1964) and Dy. Chief Officer (from 9-5-1%2 to  31-12-1964). On 1-1-1965, appointed as Chief Officer. Promoted  as General Manager from 1-10-1968. Appointed Custodian of the  nationalised Syndicate Bank from 1-3-1970. On 1st December 1972,  appointed as Chairman & Managing Director of the Bank. Retired from  office as Chairman & Managing Director on 22-4-1978 after completing  service of about 8 years and 2 months as Chief Executive of the very  progressive Nationalised Bank.

Has attended training courses at the Administrative Staff College at Hyderabad. Participated in the International Summer School of Banking held in Scotland in 1958. Had the opportunity of studying the working of Westminster Bank Ltd., London. Attended programmes sponsored by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and workshops on various subjects sponsored by the National Institute of Bank Management, Bombay and other Management Associations.  Elected several times to the Udupi Municipal Council, was Municipal Corporator for 14 years and Municipal Chairman for 5 years. Took active interest to promote educational institutions. Thus, an experienced banker, educationist, social worker and administrator.
